Celebrating Dewi, Patron Saint of Wales
From February 27th onwards, Nant Gwrtheyrn will host a series of poetry workshops for primary schools (Key Stage 2) celebrating Saint David’s Day.
The children will retrace the steps of the Saints along one section of the Pilgrim’s Way from Clynnog Church to Pistyll Church – both very different churches in terms of atmosphere and architecture. Along the way they will learn about Saint David and the world in which he lived before coming down to Nant Gwrtheyrn full of inspiration and eager to create poetry.
Guiding the pupils through the poetry writing process will be one of four poets – Iwan Llwyd, Myrddin ap Dafydd, Gwen Lasarus or Gwion Hallam, and the finished poems will be displayed on Nant Gwrtheyrn’s website, www.nantgwrtheyrn.org, from March 13th onwards.
Elen Thomas, Nant Gwrtheyrn’s Education Officer said,
“We are looking forward to celebrating Saint David’s Day in an enjoyable and memorable way with several of the schools partaking in the Nant’s activities for the first time. We once again had to arrange more activity days than intended owing to high demand. The next workshops for primary schools will be held for nine days at the beginning of May looking at The Celts.”
She added:
“We are also grateful to Awards for All Wales and the Arts Council for Wales who have part-funded these workshops.”
