Nant Gwrtheyrn > News > New Trustee

With a new season at the Centre underway, ‘Nant’ welcomes Huw Jones, former Chief executive of S4C to the Board of Trustees.

Welcoming several new developments for 2007 following January’s Board meeting, Jeff Williams Jones, Nant Gwrtheyrn’s Chairman said “with a committed core team of staff, the appointment of a Chief Tutor, the re-appointment of Jim O`Rourke as our executive consultant and the arrival of Huw, all the Board and the staff at the Centre are looking forward to several positive challenges in the year ahead ”.

“Already the work of upgrading some of the houses, with the support of Cyngor Gwynedd, has begun and discussions with a company of architects, responsible for the plans for upgrading the remainder of the Trust`s estate, are well in hand ”.

In tandem, ‘Nant’ as the national residential centre for Welsh for Adults in Wales, has developed close working relationships with the Department of Lifelong Learning in the Welsh Assembly Government and the regional Centre for teaching Welsh to adults in the University of Wales, Bangor.

“I am confident”, said the Chair, “that the developments in hand will bear fruit and enable us to fulfil a pivotal role in the provision required to promote the language amongst learners. As a Centre of Excellence, we look forward to supporting the National Assembly in its aim of creating a confident bilingual Wales, a worthy strategic aim adopted in the document ‘Iaith Pawb’.
