Fully-funded Welsh language courses available to the Welsh workforce

New ‘confidence-building’ Learn Welsh courses are being introduced by Nant Gwrtheyrn language and heritage centre for Spring and Summer 2021, taught in virtual classrooms and available free of charge to anyone working in Wales or those currently unemployed.

The courses are part of the ‘Work Welsh’ programme run by the National Centre for Learning Welsh, which aims to strengthen Welsh-language skills in workplaces across Wales.

These intensive courses, which take place in virtual classrooms, are led by experienced tutors and feature self-study elements. A variety of courses are available between May and July 2021.

Rhodri Evans, Education Manager at Nant Gwrtheyrn, said: “We are delighted to be working once again with the National Centre for Learning Welsh by providing the Spring and Summer intensive ‘Use’ Work Welsh courses.

“These will be virtual courses with five learning sessions delivered by experienced tutors over a five-day period. The courses include self-study elements that have been developed specifically for this learning approach.

“The response to the virtual courses earlier in the year was fantastic, and it’s great to see these courses back by popular demand and having a vital impact on the use of Welsh in our workplaces and beyond.”

Dona Lewis, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Planning and Development at the National Centre for Learning Welsh added: “Work Welsh offers options for learning, improving, and using Welsh language skills for work purposes and provides help and support to employees as well as their employers.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our world. The development of digital Learn Welsh resources was already a priority for the Work Welsh programme, and during lockdown we accelerated various projects, which offer even more opportunities for our learners.

“We have adapted our services to give employers and their workplaces plenty of choice and flexibility to enjoy learning Welsh, and we’re pleased to be working with Nant Gwrtheyrn again.”
