In memory of Gwenda Griffith

In memory of Gwenda Griffith

On Wednesday the 22nd of May, we received the sad news that one of the Ymddiriedolaeth Nant Gwrtheyrn board members, Gwenda Griffith, had died following a short illness.

Paying tribute to her, Trust chairman Huw Jones said:

Gwenda was one of the small group of people who ventured into setting up independent television companies in those tumultuous months before S4C went on air.  She insisted from the outset that there should be space on the channel for programs that celebrated format, style and quality.  Over the years she showed how to deliver those subjects through the medium of Welsh.

The Welsh language itself was important to her from the outset and she soon became a producer on a chain of series which promoted and supported the efforts of learners from all walks of life.  This brought her into contact with Canolfan Iaith Nant Gwrtheyrn and she accepted an invitation to become a Board member in 2014.

She was very loyal to the Nant throughout the years – attending almost every meeting and using her sharp eyes and experience of relevant fields when dealing with the various challenges.  She would speak her mind but was always willing to listen and consider other’s points of view.  She was a firm support and adviser to more than one Chairman.

She remained, until her final weeks a passionate and enthusiastic contributor with a clear vision of how to secure the Nant’s place amidst the spread of the Welsh language.  She will be greatly missed.
